Face Fitness is a combination of face exercise, face acupressure, face massage and face relaxation, a natural approach to skin longevity. The skins metabolism regulates cell turnover, which helps with damage repair, protein production (such as collagen) and overall longevity. Even though it is natural and beautiful to age, the rate of our skins metabolism does not have to fully slow down and “age” with us. We can aim to boost our face (and body) metabolism through the practice of exercise, touch; and furthermore, through aesthetic procedures offered by your local dermatologists.
Face Fitness is renowned to work with the face and help encourage toning and strengthening of the facial muscles. It can also help with wellbeing techniques via connecting with our body and being present. When our body senses any sort of touch, our reflex receptors tune in and result in increased blood flow and lymph flow. Face Fitness techniques can encourage rejuvenated skin cells, strengthen the facial muscles and leave us with control over our skin longevity.
When I practice the Danielle Collins Face Yoga Expert face fitness, I am working with the hypodermis layers (including the muscles and fatty tissue), the dermis layer (the connective tissue) and the epidermis layer (the skin cells).
During the face exercises, we are working with actively engaging the 57 muscles in the face and neck. The superficial fascia (connective tissue under the skin) is responsible for the support and infrastructure of our skin, containing superficial vessels and nerves. Performing face exercises can help lead to stronger facial muscles, which can help tauten and tone our skins appearance.
During the face massage, we are working with manual methods that stimulate metabolism and circulation. When we use our hands to massage the face, we are stimulating the muscles and nerve motor points, which both contracts and relaxes the facial muscles. This then results in blood and lymph circulation, muscle tone, and could even help tension release and congestion release. This can help increase collagen and elastin fibres, even the skin tone, provide a natural glow and overall a healthier skin complexion.
During the face acupressure, we are working with certain points on the face. This helps increase the energy (chi/qi/prana) flow to the areas of the face, therefore increasing circulation, reducing tension blockage and restoring balance. This helps result in a natural, healthy glow to the skin and can help contribute to a calm, present mind.
During the face relaxation, we are simply learning to control and become aware of our face and teach it to relax. This can help prevent and minimize fine lines and wrinkles that are caused by stress-squinting or overworked expressions.
It is recommended to perform Face Fitness, once a day, for six days out of the week. It only takes 10-20 minutes a day. You can practice Face Fitness in a standing, sitting or laying down position, in the morning or in the evening (seriously, you can practice while watching TV, taking a bath, reading a book or even during a brisk morning walk). It is recommended to take ‘before and after’ photos to visually see your progress.
Results can vary for everyone. Some may see (and feel) immediate results via less tension in the face and a natural glow to the skin from increased circulation. Furthermore, long-term improvements have been reported to be noticed between 2-4 weeks. After 2-4 months, one may notice diminished fine lines and more toned features.
The same way we are consistent with our body work outs for strong/toned body longevity, we must be consistent with our face work outs for the same results. There is no need to over-work our body and face. Performing techniques and exercises all day/every day will not result in “better/faster” results. Furthermore, despite regular practice, if an individual is not seeing any results, it may be worth looking over our lifestyle (stress, sugar/alcohol/caffeine intake, sleep patterns, skincare products etc.). Everything begins from within; please talk to your doctor if you have any questions/concerns or before starting your own Face Fitness journey.
There are NO-known side effects from Face Fitness, nor will it crease or cause wrinkles to the face. At Lucid Skin Club, we train to perform these holistic routines to the face in a controlled movement by following the exact techniques learned via Danielle Collins Face Yoga Expert protocol. With Face Fitness, you are using all three layers of the skin and the muscles in union together. Furthermore, when performing face massage, we are NOT dragging the skin; we are either using a gentle-like touch or pressing ‘down’ to engage all the layers of the skin and muscles. It’s best to practice in front of a mirror, to be aware of the movements and your face, and performing each practice the correct way.

Typically, Face Fitness can be resumed between 7-14 days post facials (chemical peel/lasers/microneedling etc.); however, speaking to your aesthetician/doctor is recommended.

Furthermore certified with Facial Sculptural Massage/Buccal Massage & Advanced Glymed Plus Chemical Peel.
